Welcome Campers!
Perhaps the greatest secret to Robin Hood’s success is the quality of the campers themselves. One third of Robin Hood’s population comes from outside the U.S. Philosophically, we are committed to creating a community, which offers campers an opportunity to be influenced by a variety of cultural perspectives, and to attract families who value, and seek for their children, a summer experience different from what they experience at home. We take our community dynamic seriously and because of this we screen campers carefully, insisting on strong teacher recommendations and a personal interview with a director prior to enrollment. By surrounding your child with positive, enthusiastic, inclusive peers, he or she has a far greater chance for successful integration and a positive growth experience. We offer a large variety of activities, many of which are taught at a high level, to provide a safe place where campers can learn to make decisions and be empowered to strike out on their own. To enable this, we try to tailor our programs to fit the needs of your campers. The daily program structure allows campers to focus on one activity all day—it is possible to play 8 hours of tennis a day, for example—try many things, or go out on excursions and trips. And our distinct age programs offer a way for older campers to be social in a safe, supervised, and age appropriate environment.
Camper Programs Ages 7-13 Campers choose their own activities from the more than 30 activity choices. Morning activities #1 & #2 are weeklong. The afternoon activities are a daily choice, chosen at lunchtime for that afternoon. We have no age restrictions for any activities other than Scuba Certification (must be age 11+), and white water rafting (must be age 11+ and have passed advanced swim tests). In this way we find that campers meet friends from their bunks and from their activities and campers feel empowered to make their choices and we provide a safe place in which to do this. All campers participate in color war, as well. Campers have been Greens and Scarlets since 1928 and we have maintained this friendly rivalry as way to develop our community spirit; in the evenings we hold group-oriented activities to balance out the individuality of the day-to-day program structure.
Camper Program Ages 14-16 We pride ourselves in attracting teenagers who have outgrown other camp programs. Teenagers are not too old to attend Robin Hood for the first time. Advanced world-class instruction physically challenges older campers, which is highly unusual to find in traditional camps. Robin Hood teenagers are offered an age appropriate and fun social life, and do not feel treated the same as the younger campers.
