Prospective Campers

International Camper Diversity One third of Robin Hood’s camper population comes from outside the U.S. Philosophically, we are committed to creating a community which offers campers an opportunity to be influenced by a variety of cultural perspectives, and to attract families who value, and seek for their children, a summer experience different from what they experience at home.

Camper Program Ages 7-13 Campers choose their own activities from the more than 30 activity choices. Morning activities #1 & #2 are chosen at the beginning of each week for a week at a time. The afternoon activity is signed up for daily as campers go into the dining room for lunch. There are no age restrictions for any activities other than Scuba Certification (must be age 11+), and white water rafting (must be age 11+ and have passed advanced swim tests). In this way we find that campers meet campers with whom they bunk and campers with similar interests. They feel empowered to make their choices and we provide a safe place in which to do this. All campers participate in color war, as well. Campers have been greens and scarlets since 1928 and we have maintained this friendly rivalry as way to develop our community spirit; in the evenings we hold group-oriented activities to balance out the individuality of the day-to-day program structure.

Teenage Camper Programs We pride ourselves in attracting teenagers who have outgrown other camper programs. Teenagers are not too old to attend Robin Hood for the first time. Advanced world-class instruction physically challenges older campers, which is highly unusual to find in traditional camps. Robin Hood teenagers enjoy age appropriate and fun social lives, and do not feel treated the same as the younger campers.

Ages 15-16 Our Camper and Transition (CIT) program is specifically designed for 15 and 16 year olds. Goals of the program include creating an age appropriate and desirable program to which you will enthusiastically respond and participate fully, to introduce you to higher levels of responsibility, and to challenge participants to a level not encountered previously as a camper. CITs follow a specific and varied schedule, which we plan carefully over the year. Please find the schedule below, along with further information about this special program. On top of this schedule, there are many more options available, including just staying in and working on activity skills.

Ages 16-17

Super Camper Program: The Robin Hood Super Camper Program is created specifically for 16-17 year olds who are unable to commit to the full-length Junior Counselor program, thereby missing the intensive four-week training session at the start of the camp season, but wish to be in camp. Whether the conflict is a result of the start or end of the school year, preplanned family trips, or multiple summertime commitments for you, our Super Camper program provides a solution. This program strives to give you the best of both the CIT and JC programs. Super Campers bunk in with CIT’s and enjoy the privileges of the flexible CIT program during daytime activity periods. Time off is spent with the JC group, and you will be given more freedoms.

Flexibility and choice are key descriptions of the Super Camper program. As a Super Camper you can create and customize your own program to reflect individual interests and maximize the time spent at camp. Some participants opt to work hard developing specific skills, while others take advantage of the many different choices Robin Hood has to offer.

Junior Counselor Program The goal of our JC program is to give you the tools necessary to become an effective and knowledgeable staffer. This is an intensive program which includes: hands-on training as both a cabin and interest counselor; First Aid, CPR and Basic Lifeguarding courses; and multiple seminars on safety, dealing with children, what it means to be a camp counselor, etc. To give you a better idea of what the JC program entails, we have drafted a rough outline of a typical summer’s JC schedule.
