First Time Campers

Every Robin Hood story begins with a first summer — and for many, it becomes the start of a lifelong connection. Since 1928, Robin Hood Camp has welcomed children from across the United States and around the world, offering them an environment of freedom, adventure, and friendship built on nearly a century of tradition and excellence.

We have put together a list of questions and advice first-time campers may seek before their first summer at Robin Hood. Should you or your camper have any more questions as you get excited for the camp season, please feel free to reach out to our Winter Office any time at 831-659-9143 or by email at robinhood@robinhoodcamp.com.

How do I prepare for camp?

Stay connected on social media

Follow along with us on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok as we count down the days to Opening Day! Here you will see the exciting behind-the-scenes shots of our incredible counselors and directors working to make your camp experience as fun and safe as can be, including an inside look into new activities and programs (maybe even new water toys!).

Parents can drop off campers, but there are many modes of transportation to and from camp.

What happens when I get to camp?

Our directors, counselors, and returning campers are intentional in helping first-time campers settle in and feel part of the community immediately.

How is camp life?

Learn about the cabins

Our cabins are wood, with screened windows and raised floors. Girls cabins have toilets and sinks; boys cabins have sinks and the toilets are right outside the cabin. Both boys and girls hills have showers that are steps away from the cabins. Boys and girls cabins are located in different parts of camp.

Learn about feeling homesick

At Robin Hood, our Sensitivity Directors are there for you to help adjust to your first time at camp, and maybe first summer away from home. They work closely with other directors and counselors to ensure that every camper feels supported, included, and happy. Whether it’s helping you navigate homesickness, encouraging you to try a new activity, or guiding friendships within the cabin, the Sensitivity Directors play a vital role in maintaining the warm, nurturing atmosphere that defines camp. Their goal is to make sure every camper feels known, cared for, and part of the Robin Hood family from day one.

Plan to call home

The first week at camp is a time of excitement and growth as you settle in, build friendships, and embrace the camp spirit. While you can send emails to your parents every day, you will be able to call home only after your first week. After your first week, you may call your parents or family up to two times a week at designated times–they will be eager to hear of your adventures at Robin Hood so far!

Find out about signing up for activities

We offer over 35 activities per day and the activities are open to all age and skill levels. We are truly elective: we do not limit each activity period to a specific subset of activities.

Each camper signs up for two Morning Interest Periods each week, and these activities remain the same all week. The two Afternoon Activities can be changed on a daily basis, so you can try out a lot of new things, or repeat your favorites!
